here are some helpful tips to support flowing in comfort and serenity at home.
here are some helpful tips to support flowing in comfort and serenity at home.
1. Locate a Space
If possible, reserve this corner or room for your practice (yoga flow, meditation, journaling, etc). Leave work and stress at the door or outside of this space. Allow this environment to be quiet, spacious, and peaceful to assist in activation of the parasympathetic nervous system.
2. De-Clutter the Space
Do your best to open up space in a corner or designated room in your home. Allow the space to feel clear and pure. This supports the practice of saucha, or purity in our 8-limbed journey.
3. Keep the Space Clean
We intentionally keep Latitude 44 Yoga Studio spotless. This allows for the mind and body to decompress without focusing on dust bunnies and the dirt. Give yourself a break from tasks while on your mat and do your best to keep your yoga space (or room) clean and clear.
4. Use Props
Maybe you have a yoga block or bolster at home (great!) and maybe you don't. Regardless, you have household items that can serve as props. A water bottle for support in 1/2 moon or a couch pillow to add a restorative feel to your next supported savasana. Grab your favorite blanket and get cozy. Be creative!
5. Make it Glow
Collect your candles, your salt lamps, or any other form of lighting that will add ambiance and calm to the space. Consider turning ceiling lights off and opt for something more gentle and mellow.
6. Smudge with Sage, Palo Santo, Cedar, or Other
We smudge the space at Latitude 44 Yoga Studio frequently (multiple times daily). In many spiritual traditions, this serves to dispel negative presence, cleanse the space, cleanse the aura, and nourish energy. Open the doors or windows frequently to let fresh air in.
7. Add Your Favorite Elements
Add plants, flowers, crystals, malas, bells, essential oils, candles, your favorite meditation cushion, or other features that bring you joy. These items can be placed in means of a centralized spot within the room, essentially building an altar.
8. Keep a Journal
Perhaps pre or post-class, you reserve a few minutes to reflect in your journal. Putting form to thoughts (or even writing incongruent thoughts) is helpful for processing, feeling, exploring... amidst this human experience and spiritual journey.
